Book Colored Text Reset doesn't work as intended

text was entered as follows:
1st picture - §4This§r is a test of the emergency alert system.
2nd picture - §4This§0 is a test of the emergency alert system.
3rd picture - §4This §6is §ea §atest §3of §1the §5emergency §ralert system.

issue: "§r" works for the first line of text. once a word wraps to the next line, it reverts to the color just prior to "§r."

in the case of the third picture, no amount of "§r" will ever reset the text color back to black. only manually formatting color to black by typing "§0" achieves the effect.

can someone explain how this is a dupe? it has nothing to do with command blocks or outside programs.

See MC-33145 (which is a dupe of MC-31113)

This is not a dupe. Every new line (created by a word wrap or manually, with the return key) is coloured with the last colour marker used in the page. You can try it directly in vanilla Minecraft and see it happening without any third party tool or command block involved.

Try pasting this in a Book and Quill, for exemple:
black §2green§r black
black §4red§r black
black black black

The words should be coloured according to their meaning, but they'll be coloured this way instead:
black green black
green red green
red red red

This bug is absolutely not resolved, nor a duplicate of MC-31113.

See Dinnerbone's comment:

Can't fix this sorry. Chat uses chat components, where the section symbol is of very limited legacy support. We're moving away from supporting that symbol entirely and whilst we're not quite there yet, it will be a lot of work to keep support in.

The same applies to books as well. Section sign (§) is getting removed, so it stops working properly.

ty Neo.
i'm assuming, then, when it's finally removed, written books that contain "§" won't read the same/ at all?

for the record, the word "duplicate" does not apply here. it's simply a bug that would take more effort than its worth to fix.

Probably. I don't know exactly what Mojang is planning to do.

Your personal ticket is a duplicate of (the same issue as) MC-31113, which is indeed resolved as "Wont Fix". So, yes, you are correct.
