Block and Item Duplication/Replacement when switched in inventory

I had two different items on my hotbar, went into my inventory and switched them using the number keys, closed my inventory, and used secondary click one one of the blocks or items. When I did this, slot with the item I used became populated with an exact copy of the item(s) that were in the slot that was switched.
