Will not let me play it maybe the Java?

What I expected to happen was...:
Well i expected minecraft to load up like normal so i could play
What actually happened was...:
Well i got a brand new computer for Christmas and i installed Minecraft for it and it said i needed to install the latest version of Java so, I did and then i went to play , but it didn't work i have tried Uninstall Java and reinstall but that didn't work andi need help , is it beacuse i'm a windows 8 user or just minecraft? or Java?
