[MC-44008] Pistons can push minecart rails in all directions but one

Playing around with pistons and minecart rails, i noticed that i can push a minecart rail, left, right, and down, but not up. If a minecart rail can be pushed downwards, displacing the block below it and reseting it, why can it not be pushed upwards when it also causes a displacement of the block it is resting on?

The issue this is "duplicated" by shows a different effect of the same causes. This one shows that you cannot push the rail downwards when, in 1.7.4 and possibly others, you can. It must have been changed since one year ago when the issue this "duplicates" was created.
