Chests Emptied after crash

So far all the chests I have found since my game crashed have been empty.
1. The game crashed when I stepped through a nether portal into a birch forest while it was raining.
2. I could not get it to stop crashing even when I restarted the game so I switched to a standard profile (1.7.4) and it seemed to come right.
3. I waited till it stopped raining then switched profiles back (14w03b) from then on the chests have been empty.
