"view in fullscreen" freezes computer

I was at the Main screen of minecraft doing options, and i clicked "fullscreen" - the screen went full - and black - and it disables the entire computer, including any "escape" or "command, ctrl, del" options. Have to turn off computer, unplug, and turn back on to get computer back. We deleted minecraft and re-downloaded, and that same thing happens.
