I saw a spider jockey 10 blocks from my position and decided to attack it, but when I killed the spider first, the skelleton disappeared but it kept shooting arrows at me. I tried running to avoid the invisible danger, but a few seconds later the invisible menace continued shooting arrows from anywhere, so I swung my sword repeatly without knowing where it was until I hit it to dead. I was playing earlier and had the same thing happen to me: killed the spider portion of the jockey and the skeleton remained alive (as it should), but was invisible. Unfortunately in my case it also seemed to be invulnerable, but re-logging fixed the problem.
I also got this problem but couldn't kill the skeleton at all. I got around it by changing to peaceful mode and back.
Killed the spider portion of jockey, and the skeleton became invisible. After being chased into my shelter by the invisible skeleton I managed to make it visible by right clicking on it with flint & steel while attempting to light it on fire.

it seems that 1.4.3pre is also affected.

I encountered something very similar once. Once I killed the spider, the jockey graphic move sporadically around, usually at a position much higher than he should be, often teleporting around, and arrows kept flying at me out of nowhere, but from a consistent location. I attacked the location where the arrows were coming from, but was unable to kill the skeleton.
Now I'm always careful to kill the skeleton first.
Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.
I actually came into an invisible zombie earlier, no idea how it came to be (possibly from a spawner). So don't think it's just limited to just that.
