Minecraft stops responding when I start it up

I paused the game for a moment to change my texture pack, but right after I changed it, the game froze up and wouldn't respond.
I closed it down and restarted it, but it froze up (again). I ignored it for a moment because it freezes sometimes when I start it, but then starts responding again. It didn't respond, but it crashed and closed, then it went back to the launcher which said the following:

If you're unable to change your texture pack, delete ([minecraft/options.txt|http://hopper.minecraft.net/help/finding-minecraft-data-folder]) and try again.
