odd possible water bug

I was below my mob farm and I have 1 block below water source. I walked to where the water was dripping and the graphics was like being underwater. When I walked out everything returned back to normal. I placed my under water helmet on and I could look around with the effects I would have if I was at the bottom of the ocean/river. Also when I walked under the water the sky turned dark blue to a purplish color
