Changes in Enchantment GUI makes supporting old and new versions impossible with the same Resource Pack

Since 1.6 all texture artist have had to do to make their pack work with later versions is add the new textures. However in the post 1.7 snapshots, the Enchantment GUI has new slots added to the same .PNG used by earlier versions. In short this means that texture packs artist must provide different texture packs for 1.6-1.7 and for 1.8. And that many confused users will use the wrong pack, and wonder why the Enchantment GUI is all messed up.

Please use a different image for the Lapis-using enchanting GUI, so a single resource pack can work properly in 1.6 through 1.8 (and hopefully following). Really it will save the texture artists a lot of hassle.

This is not a technical bug so is invalid for this site. I would recommend posting this to the Minecraft suggestions reddit at http://www.reddit.com/r/MinecraftSuggestions

I have seen no announcements that the texture pack format is supposed to change. My understanding was the big resource pack changes from 1.5.x to 1.6.x were supposed to produce a format where packs could be forwards and backwards compatible thereafter. And that has been the case, except for the instance in this report.

Thus i doubt it was their intention to break compatibility between 1.7 and 1.8 resource packs – it was probably an accident. Pointing out that Mojang has accidentally broken something is, i believe, very much on topic for this site.
