I created a new world yesterday with the new snapshot. Spent around 15 minutes playing, dug out a new little area and then logged out.
Upon my return today I had lost every item within my inventory, yet there was a piece of smooth stone on the floor not too far away. I am assuming this was cobblestone but has somehow transformed.
I have loggedd back in and still ahve the stone in my inventory. No one else has access to this PC apart from myself.
No clue what caused this freak bug but any advice would be a benefit as I would like to play without this happening again.

Yes it was, unknown to myself.
It appears that the launcher reverted back without me noticing.
Thanks for pointing this out, will it have any detrimental effects to my world?

See MC-45009 on the general issue, but the answer is almost certainly in other ways besides inventory.
the world was created in the snapshot, when you opened it today was it in an earlier version (1.7.4)?
