When you go quite far down into the void Several hundred blocks, if you go into 3rd person u see that the void is only around you and you can see the sun, this is kinda trivial but i just thought "you never know"

This is working by design. Around the player there is a range of blocks being rendered, outside of this area is simply nothing. The sun is rendered "above" the player.
