I was playing in a superflat world, which was all grass on top. On one section of this world, I was laying out some of the new stone blocks (to get a better look at them). Come night, I noticed there weren't any mobs spawning. When I looked at the stone blocks, they were covered in mobs...It's like the mobs weren't spawning on grass at all.

This is the superflat code I used:
2;7,59x1,3x3,2;1;biome_1,village
Other than that, I can't think of anything that would be significantly different from any other game.
I created a new world with the same superflat code, put down a bunch of different stone blocks, and the exact same thing happened.
Gary Closse,
Yes, mobs only spawn in NPC villages
??? Create a superflat world with the preset 2;7,2x3,2;1;
then you'll have a lot of mobs at night
EDIT: obviously since they do not spawn on grass, so they do on buildings 😃
With the preset "2;7,59x1,3x3,2;1;biome_1,village", mobs do not spawn except in npc villages, right?
I've tested this preset using the new non-ID superflat coding and I can confirm this is still an issue
3;minecraft:bedrock,59*minecraft:stone,3*minecraft:dirt,minecraft:grass;1;biome_1,village
But the real issue is that mobs don't seem to be spawning on Y level 64 as creating the world one block higher does work.
3;minecraft:bedrock,60*minecraft:stone,3*minecraft:dirt,minecraft:grass;1;biome_1,village
Which is reported at MC-55172
Yes, duplicate of MC-55172. Has nothing to do with grass or not.
Cannot reproduce, can you please add some more Information?
