I placed an anvil on an end portal (the black thing) and it didn't get transfered to the end
what I expected to happen was: the anvil would fall the second I placed it and get transfered to the end the second it touches the portal.
What actually happened was: it just floated there. as if it thought the portal was a solid block.
steps to reproduce:
1.activate an end portal.
2. place an anvil on one of the black portal blocks.

This is not a bug, because the end portal is holding the anvil, just like you can hold sand with other non-solid blocks like torches.
Confirmed that the anvil does not drop when placed directly on the black section of the portal. However, if you place the anvil above the portal and allow it to fall, it falls through correctly every time.
bla bla. It isn't supposed to do this. It is a portal. that's different then a torch
kurt. I know that It will do it's job if its allready falling.
Does work with 1 block of air under it.
yes it does. but not when place on directly. I know this is not a major bug. but it's a little tiny one. and all bugs need to be reported
Thet only fall when above air blocks (portal block is not air). I guess this could be called a bug, but that would ruin some creations that take advantages of it. The same thing would happen with sand, gravel, and the dragon egg.
Harder to fix than imagined, item does teleport now but it leaves the block as well, no idea why ๐

Not a bug it because when you place the block its still counted as a block it needs to be an entity to go into the portal. Case closed
Is this still a concern on Minecraft 1.4.4 Pre-Release? If so, please update the version affected.
The portal is a solid block. Placing an Anvil on it will suspend it.
And since the Anvil is not moving, it's not an entity, and therefore won't teleport.
the portal is not a solid block. and the anvil should be falling.
and the fact that grumm tried to fix it proves this is a bug.
I'm attaching a screenshot for reference.
If you look at it, you'll notice that some blocks that aren't solid STILL keep the anvil up.
And if the portal is not solid, then what would stop it from keeping the anvil from falling?
don't ask me. I'm not a programmer๐. but still, grumm tried to fix it. if it's not a bug he would have marked it as "not a bug"
My fix didn't end up working because of some weird anti-dupe code for sand/gravel in combination with pistons. This is likely code we'll go over for 1.5 so we then might be able to fix this.
you know what everyone is right they should fall into the end portal I mean once my pet wolf named wolfie went in the nether portal
why is this marked as a duplicate?
It is the same issue as MC-838, and that one is more general. Doesn't matter anyways, it's intended.
no it's not. mc-838 is about blocks being broken while this one is about blocks being transported to a differend dimension.
And "it's intended"..... really again?
I said it like 2 times! here's my quote "the fact that grumm tried to fix it proves this is a bug.".
look what he said: "My fix didn't end up working because of some weird anti-dupe code for sand/gravel in combination with pistons. This is likely code we'll go over for 1.5 so we then might be able to fix this."
now once again. If this was being worked on by grum, he even tried to fix it but he just hasn't succeeded yet.
Give me one reason why a minecraft developer tried to fix something that is intended.
So are my valid arguments just going to be ignored?
