Jumping into water causes bounce

If jumping into a pool of water one block deep against a wall, the player will occasionally bounce back up a block. This is a seamless animation (similar to the animation when bouncing on a slime block), so I don't believe this is a y-coordinate glitch.

It happens both with and without the spacebar pressed (my first thought was the keypress interval syncing with the moment I hit the block under the water) and seems to occur more consistently when jumping into corners.

I've never noticed this previously, though I don't know if this is specific to this snapshot or not.

Easiest way I have been able to reproduce is the setup in the attached screenshot. Jump from one side to the other and hit the wall on the other side, falling into the water. The player bounces back up before falling into the water as is expected. It will happen both when sprinting and when walking (to test walking, just reduce the river to 2 blocks wide).

Best guess is the player is landing between the block above and the block below the water line and is pushed out.

After some more playing with it, I've found that depending on where you land (along the y-axis) against that wall, you can go higher or lower on the bounce. It reminds me of "super bouncing" found in Halo 2 where landing in exactly the right spot would launch the player hundreds of meters and landing just off that spot would only launch them a few dozen meters. The scale seems to be much smaller here, ranging from .5 blocks to 2 blocks, but the effect is the same.

Please upload a video of that issue.

Certainly. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0M5plPHbjc

Note: After pressing jump, I release the spacebar and the only key being pressed when landing in the water, against the wall is the W-key. I can duplicate it now fairly consistently. It seems like it does not happen if you do not firmly land against that back wall. I have difficulty duplicating on rivers wider or less wide than 2 or 4 blocks when walking or running, respectively.

I can confirm it still affects version 14w19a. I updated the ticket with the affected version.

Is this still an issue in the most recent versions (i.e. 1.10.2, or 16w42a) of Minecraft?

Does MC-8959 describe your issue?

j_p_smith

They are different issues. This issue more closely resembles MC-135211, however it occurs after falling around 2.10-2.35 blocks, a height which isn't mentioned in that ticket. This issue also existed long before 1.13, unlike MC-135211.

Avoma

Can confirm in 20w48a.
