Unable to detach lead from fence

i recently tamed a horse, and put it on a lead. i then attached the lead to a fence. later on when i tried to detach the lead, i couldn't. i tried hitting the knot and the fence, and i tried right clicking on both. the only thing that worked was to break the fence completely.
