Left Shift in a minecart is glitchy, dumps me down a hole

I have a minecart on a single piece of east-west track. When I press left shift to exit it, I get dumped down a hole to the north of the minecart, even though there are solid blocks in all other directions. To the northeast and northwest there are glass blocks, to the south, southeast, and southwest there are stone brick blocks, and to the east and west there are glass blocks with slabs on top of them.
I don't know the exact circumstances under which this happens, but it happens every time I exit this minecart. I tried moving the minecart, I tried breaking the minecart and putting a new one in its place, and I tried breaking and rebuilding the track, but the glitch still happens.
