[MC-52926] Smooth Lighting Not in Effect/Not Working

I play with smooth lighting at maximum, and noticed that it does not always appear to work. The attached screenshots include the environment, as well as my Video Settings, of which was taken 6 seconds later.

Please force a crash by pressing F3 + C for 10 seconds while in-game and attach the crash report ([minecraft/crash-reports/crash-<DATE>-client.txt|http://hopper.minecraft.net/help/finding-minecraft-data-folder]) here.

I am unable to force a crash. I believe this may be due to the fact that I am on a laptop, and must hold down CTRL whenever I use the F3 key. I can upload a copy of the map, but holding F3 + C does not work, unless I am doing something wrong.
