Not able to use furnces

Actually the version is 1.7.9 not 1.3.9 but it said no such version exist.

What I expected to happen was to able to cook my raw steak when I killed some cows so I could regain my hunger MORE by cooking it.

Describe what you thought should happen here
What should have happened was that I was supposed to be able to cook my raw steak

What actually happened was when I was really low on hunger I tried and tried to find cows but I failed!!
So when I finally found cows I found about 5 cows so I killed them all!!
I was ECSTATIC so then I went back to my wooden house to cook my raw steak.
So then I put my coal in my furnace to cook the steak but then I realized my furnace wouldn't cook!!!
So then I looked up online to see how to fix the problem but no one knew how to fix the problem.
So now I had the perfect idea...
REPORT THE BUG!!!!
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Put coal in the furnace.
2. FURNACE NOT WORKING!!!!!
