Unpowered piston still powered despite no powered blocks within several meters

Had a piston push a slime block by having another piston push a redstone block down on top of it. Even after the redstone block was destroyed, the piston remained powered. The piston does not fix itself with a block update. All powered blocks within several meters were destroyed, but it is still powered.
