Iron Golems don't require air blocks to be besides their head when placing the head block

As a result, they delete any blocks placed beside their head. The diamond blocks in the attached screenshot would be deleted.

Confirmed.
Either the air blocks are required or the creation of the golem must not delete the blocks.

Well, the issue is fixed by not spawning the golem (and thus not deleting the blocks), but this behaviour is different from 1.7.10, see MC-60792
