I was playing survival with friends, and I found a savanna with lots of patches of random dirt everywhere, I don't think this was intentional since there are bushes on the dirt.

Intended. This is coarse dirt.

That's not coarse dirt. Coarse dirt is only in 1.8+. But still, those dry patches are supposed to be there.
