cannot left click

Whenever I want to left click on an entity, my sword doesn't swing. The problem doesn't only affect tools, but all inventory spots regardless of item. The problem goes on for a minute or so, but I cant play minecaft properly. Please fix the problem, as it is not fun, I can try playing on different versions or snapshots at the moment.
