well when i place a beacon in survival on diamond block or dirt it wont work. i had it work before on diamond block i put a diamond in the beacon but it didn't work.

The beacon must be placed on a block of Diamond, Iron, Gold, or Emerald, to function. It must also be exposed to the sky, and you must 'pay' it one of those items, selecting an effect, to apply it. See the Minecraft Wiki for details.
