If an enchantment table and a bed have a 1 block gap in between them, you can walk (or sprint) from being on top of the enchant table, hit the gap on the ground, and then walk up the bed as if it were a slab.

That's because you haven't fully reached the ground yet, so you still have a slight height boost, allowing you to walk up the bed. Same thing if you have a flat area with a block missing in the ground. Sprinting over it allows you to make it straight across the gap without jumping.
