Game mode issue on kindle

My first time playing minecraft, and I was really enjoying it to the point where my kindle's battery died. Well normally this isn't a big deal so I plugged it in and tried to get to my world. My only world (which was initially survival) was now listed as creative, however, not only can I not change it back to survival, but it isn't truly creative mode. The menu still lets me pull whatever block I would like, but things such as flying aren't enabled as well as the fact that mobs still agro me and can even kill me even though I don't have a health bar and should be in creative. I would really like to continue on in my first world because I was starting to make progress, but this has made it near unplayable because it isn't truly survival or creative.
