The torches are oriented opposite the surface they should cohere to. Tried three times in the latest snapshot: bug is consistent.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Make new superflat world
2. Go to End
3. Kill ender dragon
4. Look at portal

That one is more detailed, anyways. I looked for "end portal" and didn't find it. Probably should have tried torch.
