What I expected to happen was...:
I put the paper in crafting table as usual (3 vertical) for the book recipe in anticipation of getting books for bookcases.
What actually happened was...:
What happened was no outcome at all on the output side of the table. I still have the paper, just no book.

As mentioned, books need leather now. See the wiki for details.
Confirmed that this happens, but it is not a bug. Books need leather now, place 1 leather in any open spot around the three papers.
