Entering and exiting game crashes

When you enter the game nothing generates for about five minutes, then when it does you can't break blocks, mobs and entity s freeze, and some terrain doesn't generate

When you try to click Save and Quit to Title it doesn't respond and it either crashes or you have to wait ten minutes before it finally unfreezes and goes back to the title screen.
