Double height flowers popping in 1.8

Loading a world created in 1.7.10 in Realms into 1.8 caused all the double height flowers (sunflower, rose bush, peony, lilac) to "pop" and become dropped as items. They can be placed again, but for someone with a large flower garden like me, this could cause a lot of flower lossage if not spotted in time.
