The new update (1.8) is laggy and all weird

When I tried the 1.8 update, it looked all weird and my fps number is 20 when it is usually around 60-100. I will put a screenshot of it below. If you see, the space between the blocks are black and the water is looking weird. I hope something will be done for this!
