The entire game is generally glitchy. Every second or so, the screen will flash white or light blue. The chunks all load very slowly. The game lags a lot more than usual. Sometimes the edges of the screen will flash white or black. All the inventory tabs flash wildly and inconsistently. Especially the Foodstuffs and Search Items tabs. When the inventory is open, what looks to be pieces of blocks will flash all over the screen. It's hard to describe without seeing it yourself. But it seems like the enchanted books do it the most.
Also, sometimes the game will run just fine. The chunks will load quickly, there's nothing flashing, and it's not lagging. But the inventory stays an issue.

Are your Video Settings set high or low? When you've set them high, it could be possible, that your computer isn't good enaugh to handle the settings.

I can confirm about the lagging. It definitely isn't about the video settings. The settings are just the same as it was before the update. Can't confirm anything else because the lagging is causing me not to be able to play.

This is exactly what happened to me before.
When i got my new PC it downloaded and installed Java and Minecraft.
After a week windows got updated and that happened. So i reset my PC to factory settings and windows verision and it was fine again. What I'm saying is not reset the PC, just wait for a windows update.

My setting are down all the way right now. Everything else works in my computer and it only started doing this when I played 1.8 for the first time. I've upgraded to Windows 8.1 and it continues to be an issue.
