Since 1.8 I can't play without lag

So ever since the update whenever I load minecraft up, past the launcher right before the game starts when I see the Mojang name minecraft gives me the (not responding) error. then it loads normally. but when I try and play on my friends server like i use to do it lags like no other. I tried and singleplayer is just as laggy.
