In creative, items disappear when clicked then exiting inventory

When in creative mode, pick up an item or stack of items as if to move it from one inventory slot to another. WITHOUT placing the item(s) down, close your inventory and go back into the game. What you had picked up has now vanished.

Although perhaps a feature, I doubt it - and although perhaps not the most important bug, a bug nonetheless.
