Since the Minecraft 1.8 update.
When creating a world in survival mode with cheats enabled, after switching into gamemode 3 and back into the normal gamemode 2 it becomes impossible to place/break blocks.
It is still possible to interact with items already places, such as bed or chest and eat food already in inventory.
Loading new chunks, reloading the game and dying in the game do not resolve the issue. Already tried creating new game file, with no better result.

Game modes:
0: survival
1: creative
2: adventure
3: spectator
Alternatively, you can run commands such as /gamemode survival
Thank you, typing /gamemode survival worked. Before the update, typing /gamemode 2 is how I returned into survival, but I guess it changed in 1.8.
Gamemode 2 is adventure mode. You aren't supposed to interact with blocks in that mode.
