permanent nightvision

I don't know what might have caused this for sure, so how I think this came up might be off a bit.
I generated a customized world (with the new world customization stuff),
I set default gamemode to creative in the world generation options,
I build for a bit, and I drink nightvision potions so I can see at night and underground when I work with my builds.
The potion effects wear out, so the nightvision goes away.
I log out of the game.

I come back later and log back on, and now I see every block like all sides are lit with light level 15. I go to inventory, and the nightvision tab is not there. There are no particle effects. I try changing video settings, nothing happened with the lighting. I try changing gamemodes, but that didn't do anything either. I try drinking another nightvision potion, I get the tab, the potion wears off, but I still see like I still have nightvision.
Another problem is this is spread to ALL my saves, no matter the gametype, no matter if the world was made before this problem showed up or if it's a newly generated world.

Like I said above, I'm not sure what I did exactly to cause this problem, and therefor cannot give accurate procedures to reproduce this. I will make a guess and say it might be logging off while the potion is in effect.

Maybe a bug with potion effects? Or an Windows 8 incompatibility? (Windows 8 causes Minecraft to keep reloading chunks everytime) Maybe a guide to this bug would be this:
1. Wait for nightime (or just put /time set night in the chat)
2. Drink a night vision potion
3. Wait for the effect to get out
4. Log out
5. Log in again and open the game
6. Open the world where you drunk the night vision potion
7. Enjoy infinite night vision

This can happen if you leave the Night Vision effect on in mods that light up blocks for you (i.e XRAY). Can you confirm that you have....
A. Not installed mods that allow such a feature
B. Been using vanilla Minecraft

Please force a crash by pressing F3 + C for 10 seconds while in-game and attach the crash report ([minecraft|http://hopper.minecraft.net/help/finding-minecraft-data-folder]/crash-reports/crash-<DATE>-client.txt) here.

I don't have a crash report, but I encountered this bug too. It was on a completely vanilla 1.8 server. The only way to get rid of the night vision is /effect <name> clear.

The /effect <name> clear won't work for me, it says that the game can't clear me of effects that I do not have.

I found A way, might not be THE way, I set brightness to "moody" and turned Mipmap "off", and the nightvision stuff is gone. I don't know if that is the solution, all I know is something worked

@Jonathan Grimes
Yeah, doesn't matter if its A way or THE way, it doesn't compensate the bug.

Aha! Found out what causes the problem! Setting the brightness to "Bright" produces the bug. Gotta test it with 1.8.1-pre2

Oh wait, no, not exactly. It happens if you set Brightness to "bright" in 1.7 and you make a new world in 1.8.
