Dogs Not Teleporting

I recently found wolves and tamed a few into dogs. I was headed home and noticed that they weren't following. I had to go back multiple times to get them to "realize" they weren't following. Teleporting is not happening very often, if at all and they almost seem like they are reverting back to "wild" and roaming around as they please.
