What I expected to happen was...:
I expected when I type /give @p ender_egg I get a ender egg (the same for the portal(s))

What actually happened was...:

It's dragon_egg, and you're not supposed to get the portal blocks.

in 1.7 you can

However, in 1.8, you can't. These are considered technical blocks which were removed during development of 1.8.
