What I expected to happen was...:
I expect the link to open up like normal in my browser (google chrome). This has worked before and i do not know why it is not working any more.
What actually happened was...:
The game freezes for about 20 seconds and then it returns to its previous state within the game.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. click on any link within Minecraft
2. When asked to Open link press "Yes"

Ah yes, the thing is, i have already tried all of the things you listed, i have even removed every trace of minecraft that i could think of. (using the uninstaller and removing my .Minecraft folder)

Maybe try relogging a good few times? Try checking to see what might cause a problem. If you have major problems, maybe redownload Minecraft?
