Cannot resize minecraft window

I cannot resize my minecraft in windowed mode.
It slowly when from an occasional thing and a re-log which would fix it to now that every time I play it i won't let me resize.

The Maximize button has been greyed out and it won't let me manually resize it either. It wont even snap into half windows using the drag feature in windows 8 and 8.1.
