In survival mode I can't make a fence. I put the six sticks in the weight order and nothing appears in the out put box.

The crafting recipe for fences changed in 1.8 and no longer uses 6 sticks, instead using 4 wooden planks and 2 sticks, where the two sticks are in the middle 2 boxes, with 2 planks in the 2 boxes to the left and 2 planks in the 2 boxes to right of the sticks.
