Ever since the 1.8 update, I have not been able to hit anything, ground, pigs, cows, not even grass. I did use the one command lucky blocks thing, but even then, my game would not allow me to hit anything.

Have you checked your controls? Try resetting them? Or change launcher visibility to keep open, open a world, try to punch something, and post the log.
