Putting armour in the wrong slots crashing the game

Right clicking with armour in the hotbar will put armour in the wrong slot (i.e. pants in the cuirass slot, curiass in the helm slot), sometimes crashing the game.
After replicating the glitch, I have found that even when the armour gets put into the correct slot, it can crash the game.
The game crashes more than half the time I do this.
