When I join a world, my screen turns black. When I hit escape, I can click till I hit the 'save and quit' button and I'm taken back to the main menu.
Update: It occurs with VBOs on and off. Sometimes I can see the world for a second before the screen goes black; other times, it is instantaneous.
Update 2: Updated to the Windows 10 Nvidia driver 353.62, no change.

If it's relevant, my screen also turns black when using super secret settings in 1.7 & 1.8.

Maybe try Java 7? Worse case scenario you just reinstall Java 8
I will post a crash in the morning. However, seeing as the new launcher comes bundled with Java 8, it would be both abnormal and counterintuitive to backdate to 7.
I still use the old launcher because my computer detects the new launcher files as viruses 😛 I didn't know that
Similar situation for me. Turns black a half second after I join/create a world. I've tried using older versions of Java 8, I've tried the built in version, I tried 9 for kicks even though I knew it didn't work. I tried resetting video card settings, minimalizing them, and tweaking them. Tried various video settings in game. Nadda. Everything else about the game seems to work; I can hear myself breaking blocks and grass. When I hit esc I see my cursor, but the screen is still entirely black. I manage to click Save & Exit buttons by memory.

According to MC-83539 this may be caused by fboEnable:false in options.txt
It is! I switched to to true and no more black screen! But I never turned off fboEnable, so this is still a bug.
I am playing with fboEnable:true and I still encounter the problem. What is it i'm doing wrong, Kumasasa?
@Kumasasa I copied the options.txt file from a friend of mine and I got it working, finally. I still do not know what caused it.
To find it out: Compare your old options.txt to the new options.txt.
When on windows:

diff old_options.txt new_options.txtOr attach the old and new version here and let me do it.

@@unknown: That may be a broken resource pack (see "incompatible") (please attach the output of the Launcher's game console after starting a game), that also may be a broken AMD graphics card driver (Windows 10 is quite new..), but of course that may be a bug in Minecraft.

I found the problem which coused the black screen for me.
In my resourcepack there was the assets/minecraft/shaders folder ( copied from the original 1.8 jar back in 2014).
Removing it from the pack solved the problem^^
Is this a new world or a pre-15w31a world?
