I went exploring new territory to find potatoes and carrots the first time I ran 1.4.2. I carried an Ender chest with me to double the amount of items I could find and bring back to my base. When my inventory was full, I moved items to the previously-empty Ender chest.
Later, I found that carrots, potatoes, and boats (at least) that I had found in my exploring were gone. They weren't in either the Ender chest or my inventory. I didn't die while exploring, though I did fill my inventory a few times. Each time, I placed the Ender chest and moved items to it. It was only after a few hours when I was finishing for the night that I found my carrots, potatoes, and boats were gone. Other items may also have gone missing, but those were the ones I was aware of.
Thanks!

Edit: Probably not a duplicate of MC-409 due to not saving, but maybe related.
MC-409 involves logging out and back in. I'm not sure that's required in this case.
As an additional data point, I forced an update, and only once since then have I thought that something might have gone missing or changed to something else. My original issue took place in the first hours of playing 1.4.2.
This is running on Win 7, Java 1.7.0_09, 6G RAM, many G of free hard drive space, all Microsoft updates applied.
Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.
I should have said this is single-player.
