Enderdragon doesn't spawn upon entering the End

So I created a new world, flew around for a bit in the overworld and close the world and Minecraft for awhile. I went back on the world and created a portal to the end and the dragon did not spawn. I check around the island to see if it spawned and got stuck in any unloaded chunks but it never showed up.
