Can't see water or portal when a firework goes off

Can't see water or the purple thingy in a portal when a firework goes off near you.

What I expected to happen was...:

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Make a portal and/or find/make a water hole.
2. Set a block two places above the ground. One space then a block.
3. Set off a firework underneath the block you placed.
