The shields changes colours when it registrates any damage, but if you originally crafted a black Shield, for an example, the name stays the same!
1. I was playing LAN Mode with a friend
2. Created a Shield
3. When I blocked With it, and a projectile or mob did damage to the Shield, it changed colours.
