End Gateway Portal terrain does not load correctly

When entering the End Gateway Portal, initially the terrain generates just fine. If you venture far enough though, it seems the terrain loading becomes broken. The landscape starts to look identical and blocks become invisible. In some areas, if you fall your rate of decent is extremely slow, slower than that of descending while flying in creative.
