Empty spaces on signs with colored text say "null"

Whenever I use commands to create a sign with colored text, exit the world, and re-log, all of the empty lines on the sign are filled with the word "null"

You've opened the world in 15w31..15w33c. Restore an 1.8 backup and use 15w36c.

I don't have a 1.8 backup. This map was created in the 1.9 snapshot.
